At the Los Angeles Times, OpenStreetMap and open-source tools are an invaluable part of our news process. Years ago, we did all of our map work with Google and ESRI products. Now we’ve created open source custom tiles, use Leaflet, QGIS, PostGIS and GeoDjango, and contribute back to OpenSteetMap. Without OSM data and open source software, we wouldn’t be able to track and analyze every homicide in L.A. County on our Homicide Report. Come learn about how we use OSM in our day to day work as journalists.
