In 2012, I convinced the City of Chicago to release their address and building data using an open source license, worked with the local and global community to convert the data, and imported it by hand over the course of several months. In this talk I will review my experience, and compare it with other, ongoing community-based imports for similar-sized cities like New York and Seattle.
