OpenStreetMap has potential applications for First Responders. This session will present the outline of a project to deploy Android based tablets with OSM data as Geo Data Assistants for Fire Fighters. In addition to providing an accurate GPS using Enhanced 911 address data, these tablets will be configured to contain other Geo Data of interest to Fire Fighters, such as data on wet and dry hydrants (location and flow capacity) and the location of emergency medical evacuation landing sites for helicopters. The tablets would be of particular value on Mutual Aid calls, where Fire Fighters respond outside their normal districts.
